ATP and the BOLD response

The fMRI BOLD signal forms the basis of almost all modern functional brian imaging studies. The origins of this signal remain unclear. A superb new paper establishes a link between the rapid activity-depdendent release of ATP and the generation of fMRI BOLD responses in somatosensory cortex. This is a landmark paper that changes the field, and Sarissa's ATP biosensors helped the authors to develop the evidence to substantiate their findings.
