Carbon fibre adenosine biosensors

This is the first paper to feature the adenosine biosensors fabricated on a carbon fibre electrode. The very small dimensions of these biosensors were essential for measuring adenosine levels inside islets -the first time this has been achieved. These direct measurements showed unexpectedly that adenosine release is inversely related to glucose concentration and does not arise from previous release of ATP in the isolated islets.
